Utility Vehicle

A utility vehicle is one that is normally motorized and is intended to carry out a specific task with more effectiveness than a general-purpose vehicle. These vehicles can be used for commercial, transportation, and recreational activities. If engaging in off-road operations, utility vehicles are highly beneficial.

Types of Utility Vehicles

  • Armored

    • Mainly used by military; military tanks, trucks

  • Coupe or Tray

    • Also known as a pick-up truck. This vehicle features a coupe passenger compartment with an attached cargo bed, low profile road tires, low ground clearance

  • Crossover

    • Designed on a car frame, with little off-road capacity

  • Electric

    • Ran by deep-cycle batteries; can be registered as a motorcycle in many states

  • Light Equipment

    • Vehicles with a flatbed that is added to an all-terrain vehicle; typically used as a maintenance vehicle

  • Sports

    • Specially designed for rough terrain, mostly off-road, conquering light to heavy duty jobs. Sports utility vehicles are regularly equipped with 4-wheel drive, giving them the ability to blaze through water and climb over raised areas

  • Utility Terrain

    • Longer and wider than ATV’S, running payloads from 800-1350 lbs.

Primary Uses

  • Farms

    • Working on a farm can be problematic at times, due to how large they can be and how many duties need done. Using a utility vehicle to get from one task to another can increase productivity.

  • Hunting Trips

    • Devoted hunters often use utility vehicles out in the wild.  These utility vehicles are able to endure what nature brings them and are a huge help when covering a lot of land. Hunters are able to carry all of their gear as well as any game they may catch while out in the woods

  • Large Venues

    • At venues, utility vehicles are commonly used to transport supplies. Often times it can be challenging to move from one side to another when there is a large amount of people in a condensed area. With utility vehicles, you can move quickly through a crowd much easier.

Compatible Attachments

  • Angle Broom

    • Clear away dirt, dried mud, light snow and other debris

    • Effective on driveways, sidewalks, parking lots, loading docks, warehouses, etc.

    • Dethatch lawns for new growth or reseeding

  • Bucket

    • Tow away ashes, grain, wood chips, snow and other materials

    • Great for loading, digging, light-duty grading and dragging

  • Mower

    • Cut lawns, parks, large acreages, cemeteries, golf course and athletic fields

  • Pallet Fork

    • Move pallets of seed, concrete, landscaping pavers or other materials

    • Transport building supplies

    • Unload freight, lumber, shingles, siding, fencing and block

  • Snow Blade

    • Remove light to moderate snow on sidewalks and driveways

    • Push snow and other loose materials

  • Snow blower

    • Clear snow off driveways, sidewalks and parking lots

  • Sprayer

    • Spray lawns, parks, pastures, golf courses, cemeteries and other small to moderate acreages

  • Spreader

    • Maintain parking lots, sidewalks, driveways and alleys

Preventative Maintenance Tips

  • Brake System

    • Check brake fluid and add more as needed

    • Ensure the park brake cable tension is accurate

    • Check brake pad wear regularly

  • Throttle

    • Ensure of proper movement

    • Inspect the cable for damage and replace if necessary; if utility vehicle is stored in an enclosed structure through winter, there is a high chance of rodent damage

  • Wiring System

    • Check for rodent damage

    • Inspect for wear and routing, and apply dielectric grease to connectors subjected to water, mud and other elements

  • Drive Belt

    • Check for cracks; clicking indicates a cracked part of the belt spinning over the clutch. Replace the drive belt instantaneously. In addition, clean clutches and replace worn parts.

  • Keep Machine Cool

    • Inspect, clean and replace (if needed) the engine air filter, pre-filter, and breather filter

    • Check all air intake line and throttle body for leaks

    • Replace engine coolant at elected intervals

    • Repair any leaks in the radiator and clean outside surfaces
